I awoke this morning with you and this poem converging at the top of my list of priorities for the day.

“Preston, you took a leap of faith; I took a leap of unfaith.”

I hung onto a fragile concept of God by the thinnest of margins. Had I been more impulsive, I would have jettisoned Him, the doctrine about Him, all those associated with Him

One word commanded Mary’s attention. Four letters placed one after the other and voiced by Jesus brought instant recognition.

When I think of January, or in this case, February, I think of starting over, resolutions, and new beginnings. But as I consider this, I realize I begin again frequently, sometimes multiple times each day, and not just in January.

What to do then…with the holidays?

The angels carried their worship on the road to Bethlehem’s stable. On that first Christmas, angels by the myriads and thousands trekked from heaven to earth to worship God incarnate: Jesus, the Christ-child.

I really didn’t mind moving and working hogs, but dragging a dead or injured animal out of a feeding area into the barnyard was a dreary, messy task.

It is always risky to impose modern culture too heavily upon ancient culture, but pregnancy out of wedlock has always been problematic.

As I think back on a wonderful evening with Dave and his family, I don’t recall anyone suggesting that the government would rest on his shoulders one day. Nor do I remember anyone calling him Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, or Prince of Peace.

After years of being unapproachable, you desire to convey a different message. Yet your omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence are intimidating. 

I was stunned that nothing concerning us in 2014 needed to be edited for relevance in 2016. 

Your new heart sings the same song, and dances to the same step, as your Heavenly Father’s heart does. 

That the pimp or the drug runner or the convict needed forgiveness of their sin, I had no confusion. But that I, whose independent acts from God rendered applause, accolades, and recognition needed forgiveness was not at all evident.

Who won? Who lost? Here are the four biggest losers and four biggest winners. Least to biggest in each category, unfiltered, and to the best of my ability without bias.

God created the pinnacle of creation perfectly, but He did not give them the ability to make clothes for themselves. Why should He?

If this circus wasn’t occurring in America, I would find it fascinating. Fascinating in the awkward way a voyeur must feel looking from the outside in.
