While the commandments are no good at justifying life and securing acceptance with God, they are good at revealing what holiness looks like in those who are redeemed.

Grace emanates from the heart of God. Grace came down in Jesus’ incarnation. It is the Gospel embodied. It is the goodness of God made manifest to us while we were sinners. Grace is the story of God leaving heaven, and taking on humanity, in order to explain Himself to us.

Tighten your belt. Be light in dark places. Salt in an unsavory world. Engage. Love furiously.

Part of me, the raw and inspired place, longed for the cutting edge of faith.

Am I advocating that you should supplement the Gospel with law? Absolutely not!

Peter is incarcerated. He can languish—or he can write. He can descend into pity—or he can leverage his limitation to put on paper what he knows of life with Jesus.

The finished work of grace without earthly application renders Christ irrelevant and you irresponsible.

The encounter produced repentance—not for sin, as Job’s friends insist, but for the smallness of Job’s prior conception of God.

Destruction serves construction when God is the architect. He burns away the flammable to reveal the fireproof. He shakes down the temporary to expose the permanent.

Today, the question is not when I received saving grace. The question is how the new man I am lives as the recipient of saving grace.
